42. Is Marijuana mentioned and allowed in the Bible?

Not mentioned specifically. Some pot-loving people, who like to twist the Bible and bend reality to justify their addiction, argue that calamus first mentioned in Exodus, stands for cannabis, which is a complete lie. Calamus is a totally different plant (easy to google). It was also one of the ingredients for the holy anointing oil that is strictly forbidden to be used by anyone other than priest appointed by God Himself.

  • Exodus 30:30-33 “Anoint Aaron and his sons also, consecrating them to serve me as priests. And say to the people of Israel, ‘This holy anointing oil is reserved for me from generation to generation. IT MUST NEVER BE USED TO ANOINT ANYONE ELSE, AND YOU MUST NEVER MAKE ANY BLEND LIKE IT FOR YOURSELVES. It is holy, and you must treat it as holy. Anyone who makes a blend like it or anoints someone other than a priest will be cut off from the community.’”

As for marijuana…

Genesis 1:11-12
“Then God said, “Let the land sprout with vegetation—every sort of seed-bearing plant, and trees that grow seed-bearing fruit. These seeds will then produce the kinds of plants and trees from which they came.” And that is what happened. The land produced vegetation—all sorts of seed-bearing plants, and trees with seed-bearing fruit. Their seeds produced plants and trees of the same kind. And God saw that it was good.”

Plants and animals were given as food in general, but there are rules on how to go about eating them.

  • Animal meat needs to be killed and drained of blood, then cooked. You wouldn’t eat a sick animal or one that was already dead when you found it, or you wouldn’t bite into the feathers of uncooked chicken, so you can’t just say, “God made it for food, so let’s eat it.” (Deuteronomy 12:23)
  • It’s the same with plants; only certain plants are edible for humans, and nowhere in the Bible God permits smoking them. We don’t eat poison ivy; it’s a food source for wildlife. So it’s “good” and “food,” but not for humans. Don’t be ignorant.
  • When a person cannot say no, and cannot stop thinking about what they CONSUME; drugs, alcohol, food, etc. they are slaves to those things. It’s GLUTTONY and a form of IDOLATRY; deadly spiritual sins. The “high” isn’t worth eternal condemnation, to say the least.

Philippians 3:19
“They are headed for destruction. THEIR GOD IS THEIR APPETITE, they brag about shameful things, and they think only about this life here on earth.”
